Web4Law is delighted to announce that it has been sponsored by Securecoms Ltd for the launch and publication of a new information security bulletin for small and medium-sized law firms.

Coverage will include features on legal, technological and risk management issues with which these categories of law firm will be grappling over the next two or three years.

Securecoms (www.securecoms.com) is a new entrant to the legal marketplace. Editor of Security@Risk, Rupert Kendrick, commented, “With ever-increasing pressure to introduce corporate governance procedures and ensure compliance with professional, regulatory and legal provisions, Security@Risk aims to develop into an authoritative publication that will cover critical issues in depth."

Our aim is that Security@Risk will become required reading by law firms and we are delighted that Securecoms is sponsoring with this project.”

2008 Autumn Conference season swings into action

The traditional round of Autumn conferences is swinging into action and finds Web4Law heavily involved in delivering presentations at a wide range of events.

The Autumn programme actually kicked off as early as 30 June with a presentation to Norfolk and Norwich Law Society in conjunction with Securecoms Ltd (www.securecoms.com) a newly-founded e-mail encryption solution provider for professional services firms, and, in particular, law firms.

A healthy number of delegates from firms of all sizes in Norwich and the surrounding area heard how a simple solution – SecureMail – could revolutionise the process of ensuring that all e-mail can now be exchanged in a secure environment.

The seminar heard two presentations: the first from Web4Law director, Rupert Kendrick, who focused on the legal and business drivers for adopting e-mail encryption procedures as routine best practice; the second from Neil Lovell, marketing director, Securecoms Ltd, who explained the operation of the inexpensive solution and its accessibility to law firms of all sizes.

The feedback was universally favourable. Web4Law director, Rupert Kendrick, comments, “This event was a welcome opportunity to explain the importance of ensuring that e-mail security is not overlooked both from legal and business perspectives. It was also very convenient to be able to demonstrate the simplicity of implementing the solution to law firms who are not familiar with this type of technology.   Now, there really is no excuse for non-compliance with the Law Society’s e-mail guidelines which advise encryption of e-mail whenever suitable technology is available.”

September/October 2008 – Law Autumn

Further similar presentations in respect of Securecoms’ solution will be delivered in September and October at two Law Autumn events promoted by the Solicitors Group (www.thesolicitorsgroup.co.uk) when it is hoped that an ‘early adopter’ law firm will also address the seminar.

The Solicitors Group has rapidly established a name for itself as promoting ‘must–attend’ practice management events for law firms of all sizes and its promotions are always rewarded with high delegate attendances.  The hour long presentations will form part of the practice management educational programme of the conference that traditionally takes place within the format of the usual conference and exhibition.

The first event is on 30 September-1 October at the Conference Centre at London Olympia and the second event will be held on 15-16 October at the NEC, Birmingham.

Commenting, Web4Law Director, Rupert Kendrick, says, “I am very pleased to have been invited to speak at these events. It is a sign that e-mail security is at last becoming recognised as critical to the duty of confidentiality that every law firms owes to its clients.”

18 September 2008

Beginning on 18 September, with three further events to follow, Rupert Kendrick will also be providing presentations to four seminars dedicated to the interests of sole practitioners and 2-4 partner law firms and which will focus on IT strategic planning.   The four seminars are being held by the Law Society and the first event is to be held in London at a venue to be decided.

“I am very grateful to the Law Society for inviting me to speak at these events. This promises to be an exciting series of events because it is aimed at a section of legal practice for which there is likely to be considerable change in the next two or three years,” comments Rupert Kendrick.   “It is very forward-thinking of the Law Society to concentrate on these firms, whose IT departments will be facing serious competition in the light of the volume providers who are hoping to enter the legal services market, and the Law Society should be congratulated on this initiative.  I hope delegates will leave with some creative and constructive ideas on key issues to address in ensuring that they maximise their use of IT in order to place themselves competitively in the new legal marketplace.”

10/11 November 2008

In November, the AIM Computer Users Association (ACUA) holds its annual conference in the Forest of Arden.  Web4Law director, Rupert Kendrick has again been asked to address the conference on the latest news and developments in legal information technology.

“I am very grateful to be asked to address this conference. AIM is one of the largest IT solution suppliers to the legal profession and ACUA has a sizable and influential membership so the conference is certain to be well-attended,” comments Rupert Kendrick.  “There have been numerous, and important, developments in legal information technology over the last year or so and this will be a good opportunity to bring members of ACUA up to date with IT issues that need to be addressed.  As last year, I’m sure the delegates will show a lively interest and generate a heated debate.”
